About us

Practical Pooches is a training school established by like minded trainers, opting for a more practical approach to dog training.
With many years experience in dog handling within several different areas, we hope to be able to offer an open minded approach to the individual needs of both dog and owner.

We believe that dog training should be a fun and rewarding experience, taken on by those that wish to get the most from their dog in a non-forceful way.  Using a reward based training method to encourage your dog to make the right choices and teaching you how to be a good handler and guide your dogs development.

There is no negative or aggressive training methods in our dog training and that includes the other dogs behaviour.  Dogs are encouraged to learn by following calm and assertive behaviours and self control is a skill some dogs need to be encouraged to develop, not forced.

We are also privileged to have several highly qualified guest Instructors that can offer various other training methods, such as tracking, search and rescue, competition obedience etc.  These are offered as part of our normal training classes.

As part of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme, we also include these awards as part of our training with no additional costs and the tests are assessed as part of our normal classes.

Practical Pooches are proud to be members of the NDWA (National Dog Warden Association) and are registered with the Kennel club promoting the Good Citizen Dog Scheme.

Well done to all those who attended the Tellington Touch workshop.  It was a great day and all the dogs were very well behaved.

Paddy has already made huge progress with his Hoover fear and Bonnie is now very chilled out!  Not bad for two Chocolate Labs eh Wendy??  :o)
